TILT

This year's theme of BREDAPHOTO 2010 is: ‘TILT'. The 21st century is barely ten years old and the world is already flushed with diverse forms of crisis. The world is upside down. Developments that concern all of us. Last year's financial crisis lead to panic in many places. Recently, we witnessed fierce dissension about global warming at the climate convention in Copenhagen. The war on terror is still actual. This problem goes world wide. With the theme ‘TILT' BREDAPHOTO wants to research how photographers deal with this subject. BREDAPHOTO 2010 will take place from 16 September until 24 October.

In the context of BREDAPHOTO 2010, the Amateur weekend commission organized a master class for amateur photographers in the Netherlands and Belgium. Out of the 133 photo series we received, 40 amateur photographers were selected. On the 20th of March the photographers presented their photos and their motivation to a professional jury during speed dates. Along that a few masters gave advice in several areas. Hans Gremmen gave a presentation about what the influence of the way of exposing can be on photographs. Mama Bart has inspired the participants with out of the box thinking.

20 Amateur photographers will participate in the next part of the master class. They will present their work during the opening of the master class exhibition which will take place on Saturday the 25th of September.

CARL DE KEYZER

BREDAPHOTO will exhibit Carl de Keyzer's work in the Graphic Design Museum. After a successful exhibition in the ‘Fotomuseum' in Antwerp, which exhibited De Keyzer's Congo (Belge), the new work Trinity from this photographer and filmmaker will be placed in Breda. The exhibition can be visited from the 16th - 31st of December in the Graphic Design Museum.

TRINITY

Trinity is a milestone in the work of Magnum photographer Carl de Keyzer. It is a triptych on the theme of the omnipresence of power and violence. The title itself refers not only to the traditional image of the Supreme Power in classical painting, but also, for example, to the code name of the ominous project with which Oppenheimer lead a team of atomic physicists to produce the first atom bomb. Based on three probing themes, De Keyzer grabs contemporary power, its senseless violence and worldwide devastation by the air with oppressive images: Tableaux d'Histoire, Tableaux de Guerre, Tableaux Politiques.
