MOTI HOTELSeptember 28th 2013 until June 1st 2014
MOTI HOTEL presents MOTI’s collection in a unique and inspiring way. The museum possesses an important collection on the development of visual culture. Twenty international and national designers are asked to react to these collection items, with their own visions and distinctive styles. In this artistic hotel, visitors are guided through a surprising interior based on art, design, architecture, gaming and fashion.
We live in a visual culture, where images trump words. Whether it’s newspapers, television or the internet, the media provides us with a relentless stream of visual communication. How can museums maintain their traditional role as gatekeepers? Which images are important and which are not? Visitors of MOTI HOTEL will be able to choose which image must be preserved for eternity. These items will be included in the collection of MOTI.
The participating designers are: Aram Bartholl, Anthony Burrill, Herman van Bostelen, Juul Hondius, Noortje van Eekelen, Paula Scher, Akatre, Martijn Engelbregt, NL Architects, Pinar & Viola, Niels Schrader, Antoine Peters, Dawn, Maurer United, Honey & Bunny, Atelier Ted Noten, Harmen Liemburg, MVRDV, AKV|St.Joost, Pictoplasma, and Lucky TV - Sander van de Pavert.
The composition and design of MOTI HOTEL are provided by De Designpolitie, a designers duo consisting of Richard van der Laken and Pepijn Zurburg. They are also initiators of the international conference What Design Can Do! and the visual column Gorilla.
